White Lies for Dark Times—Album Review

Ben Harper is one of the most dynamic artists still producing records.  Ben is known for reinventing himself with every album.  From his soul driven acoustic days to his more recent date with rock and roll Ben Harper is hard to pin down.  Think of Ben Harper as the music industry’s legendary phoenix, a bird that dies and is born again from it's ashes.  This time however, Ben has been born with a new band, The Relentless 7.

Hailing from Texas, the three members of Relentless 7  rev up and rock out Harper on 12 tracks of good ole’ bluesy rock and roll. 

Harper’s signature vocals and guitar playing are not lost behind the  rockier sound however.  Ben still reminds us that it’s always been his call and he’s still the star of the show.  “Keep it Together (So I can fall apart)” is the best of the new  Harper.  The song breaks down into  a bluesy guitar solo giving Ben the time he needs to purge his soul and make his statement.

“White Lies for Dark Times” will please Harper fans but  new listeners may be confused…Is it rock?  Is it blues?  Is it soul?  The answer is:  It’s Ben Harper.  This album will get you stomping a foot or two and breaking local speed limits.  Check it out.
